This penthouse with a rooftop swimming pool on the 23rd Floor is situated in Shivaji Park, Mumbai. The sprawling apartment of 5000 sq.ft. is divided into three habitable floors and the rooftop pool cum party area interconnected by an internal lift and staircase. The clients brief was to design a place with simple yet elegant décor, a place he could call home; a place where he can get a good night’s sleep. Since the nature of his work demanded extensive travel, it was important for us to create a space which felt more like home than the countless hotels he usually stays at. We decided to run with the concept of chic contemporary design with rich material palette, textures and beautiful artwork. Adding a variety of different plants helped us tie the entire look of the space together.
Level 1 comprises of the triple height Balcony, Living room, Kitchen and the Guest Bedroom. This 1500 sq.ft. floor is devoid of any central columns and has huge open spaces which is rare in a city like Mumbai. We planned the space such that the living, dining and balcony could all be seen together from all vantage points and the expanse of the space can be highlighted beautifully. The entire living room along with the private lift lobby and internal staircase is clad with Silver fresco Italian Marble from Nitco Marbles, India. The rich grey of this marble helped us to work with more neutral wall cladding’s and color pops in the furniture and artwork.
The living room has a rich palette, basic paneling on stark white walls makes a great background for the plum Originel sofas by Roche Bobois, Paris. The only veneer clad wall houses the 85 inch Television. Two custom made plush arm chairs tie the space beautifully together and add a rich texture of tan leather. The rectangular space had to be planned carefully so as to avoid blank pockets and enable easy conversation spaces. The entrance boasts a St Laurent Marble wall with book matched pattern. This forms the backdrop for the Bar Unit, Lift by Roche Bobois, Paris, and this piece beautifully blends in with the room.
The open dining area faces the balcony and is made of solid wood polished in warm tones of rich browns. The custom-made chairs are plush and covered with jewel toned suede. The kitchen has a sliding double door which can be kept open or close based on the company and need; these doors are designed with checkered wooden panels with glass inserts. The island counter in the kitchen has a smaller sink and serving space and also forms an informal breakfast counter for early morning adventures. The pristine white Quartz counter top with wooden drawers and overhead units make the kitchen look chic and light.
Level 2 comprises of the Master bedroom and the Home theatre. The home theatre has a surround 7.2.4 sound system with Atmos ceiling speakers and Focal Electra floor standing speakers. The décor is inspired by a Manhattan loft with grey walls, minimal cladding and floor to ceiling 11 feet high windows. The Herman sofa by Natuzzi Italia, sits perfectly in the den like space with its dark brown leather and dark metal accents with the Herman Coffee table completing the look.
The master bedroom continues the contemporary design language with a dark color scheme. The rich walnut wooden flooring ties the whole room together; the walls are kept bare and the TV wall is clad with Walnut veneer to complement the wooden flooring. The wardrobe design is again minimal with the toilet door hidden as one of the wardrobe panels. The floor to ceiling doors are designed with hidden handle details to mimic a wall instead of the wardrobe. Grey PU is offset by dark veneer inlays in the door panels to maintain the chic look of the space. The ‘Satellite recliners’ by Roche Bobois, Paris placed near the window is the perfect place to relax and watch movies.
The enhanced use of Statuario Marble makes the interiors of this bathroom both classic and modern. The chevron pattern in marble specially handcrafted and designed for the shower cubicle adds a subtle elegance to the bathroom. Kohler fixtures fit in seamlessly with the space.
Parents’ bedroom was designed keeping in mind their personalities. Subtle and elegant design interventions are used on walls and wardrobes keeping the rest of the space minimal and almost bare. Colors are added in this room with bright décor pieces and artwork. Artist Achyut Palav’s painting adorns the side wall and beautifully ties the room together.
The detailing on the wooden wall paneling and wardrobe elevates and brings in warmth to the space. Specially designed door gets hidden as one of the wardrobe panels creating a seamless space without any visual barriers or openings. The plush chairs designed next to the corner L window, which opens up to the Mahim bay and Bandra Worli Sea Link vistas, aids the clients to enjoy the beautiful evening sun sets.
The Statuario Marble bathroom is very chic and minimal. It features Kolher sanitary ware, efficient lighting, mirrors and a touch of wood.
Family room houses the Satellite Recliners by Roche Bobois, Paris. This room is primarily used as a TV room and small get together space. The room becomes the central zone which connects the guest bedroom, Parents bedroom and the Temple.
